Support for the U.S. 250th Anniversary

The State of Maryland has significant connections to the founding of our Nation, and chances are that your city or town has physical structures that mark “What Happened Here on This Date.” As we countdown to 2026 and the Country’s 250th Anniversary, the National Park Service under the U.S. Department of the Interior has announced the Semi-quincentennial Grant Program.

Open to local governments, this opportunity provides funds for physical preservation of a historic site, to include:

  • Historic districts
  • Buildings
  • Sites
  • Structures -and-
  • Objects

Preservation projects funding requests may range from $75,000 up to $750,000, of which 20% may go toward pre-preservation costs such as architectural or engineering services. Matching funds are not required but a match may be considered as a competitive factor.

Projects must address and applications will be rated on each of the following criteria:

  • Significance - to the founding of the nation and identify whether they are listed in the National Register of Historic Places,
  • Need/Urgency/Threat - describe the need, urgency, and threat and the activities that are necessary and will mitigate the threat,
  • Feasibility - describe all tasks and their results as well as timeline and budget justification that show the costs are necessary, reasonable and allowable, and
  • Sustainability - describe the impact of the project after completion including long lasting effects, and the public-private partnerships and community engagement pre, during, and post project.
